Disaster Preparedness Tips
Naturally, there are certain places that are more vulnerable to disasters than others. If you live in such places, there is the need to be highly cautious. This implies that you should have strategies in place to ensure that you are safe should a disaster strike. Most disasters strike unannounced and that is why it is important to have the right preventive measures in place.
So, what should you do to reduce damages and keep people safe in the event of a disaster?
- Register with an Emergency Unit- Almost all areas of the U.S. have disaster and emergency response units. Whether private or public; it is important to register with one or have a plan set for who you're preferred vendor will be.
- Master Evacuation Routes- Identify areas in your house or workplace where one can escape through in an event of disaster. Let your loved ones know the routes too. This is especially important in the event of a fire!
- Know the Threats You Face- It is important to know what kind of disasters that are likely to hit in your area. (i.e. Coastal Flooding)
- Everyone Should Be Prepared- Perhaps you have people in your family or workplace, who needs prior preparation during disasters. It is important to keep them in mind and prepared, when planning for these unforeseen events. (i.e. Elderly)
