Candle Safety Tips

During the winter months we all enjoy cozying up on the couch for a family movie night, read a book, or a candle light dinner. Candles are common during the winter months during power loss and cold temperatures as well. Candles are reliable alternatives to flashlights and battery operated lamps during lengthy periods of power loss. While enjoying the wonderful effects candles offer, their are safety tips and precautions that we should be aware of. Candles are a common cause of house fires. Here are some candle safety tips below. 3 P's of Fire safety Prevent, Plan, and Practice
- Use a long handled lighter
- Keep Candles out of reach of children and pets
- Never burn candles near flammable products, or anything that can catch fire i.e. bedding, furniture, books, curtains, electronics etc.
- Never leave burning candles unattended
- Place candles 12" apart using a candle pillar or candle holder
- Never touch or move hot melting wax.
- Use a candle snuffer to put out the candle
